Job overview

The service is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to work with the forensic outreach team.  The current team provides care coordination to service users leaving secure care, but there are plans for the team to expand, with the addition of OT and psychology roles, in order to develop into a more specialist service, with enhanced consultation and inreach transition functions.

The role has been created following a restructure.  Currently there is funding for 8PAs but it is anticipated that there will be the option to increase to 10 PAs following the allocation of funding for a WTE consultant by the provider collaborative.  Additional PAs may be negotiable for roles within medical directorate or medical education.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Consultant psychiatrist/ RC for up to 85 outpatients (informal/community treatment orders and conditional discharges)
  • Collaborate with statutory and non-statutory organisations involved in the support and risk management of service users.
  • Participate in section 117 pre-discharge meetings and support service users to make the transition from inpatient to community environments.
  • Provide consultation, risk assessment and management advice to acute colleagues (frequency about 1-2 per month).
  • Provide excellent clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team to include attending their MDT, crib and formulation meetings.
  • Deliver high quality efficient and effective care for service users working in a trauma informed collaborative way.
  • Teach, train and supervise junior medical staff and other professionals
  • Comply with the requirements of the GMC and Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Contribute to the wider functions of the trust including governance, appraisal, quality improvement
  • The post holder will join the Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust general adult on-call rota and will be third on-call.
