Job overview

This is a new substantive Consultant post in paediatric orthopaedic surgery within the University Hospitals Tees Group.

The main priority is to enhance the paediatric orthopaedic department, support achievement of performance and financial targets, and ensure high-quality specialist service provision for children and young people requiring orthopaedic advice and treatment.

The successful candidate will join an established team of two experienced paediatric orthopaedic surgeons (Mrs Rebecca Tate and Mr David Ferguson), supported by an advanced practice physiotherapist and specialist nurse.

The department has access to an on-site Digital Skills Lab with an array of 3D printers for advanced surgical planning through Mr Ferguson’s dual role as UHT Director of Innovation.

  • The Group provides emergency and elective Orthopaedic services as a tertiary referral centre and Major Trauma Centre in the North-East of England, with career development opportunities.

The paediatric orthopaedic team work collaboratively with colleagues across the North-East and North Cumbria operational delivery network to optimise patient care across the region.

Main duties of the job

Key results and deliverables:

  • Deliver high-quality specialist elective and trauma paediatric orthopaedic surgery
  • Provide outpatient clinic services including elective paediatric clinics and fracture clinics
  • Participate in the on-call rota for Major Trauma as part of a consultant team
  • Undertake dual consultant operating where appropriate, in line with GIRFT best practice guidelines
  • Enhance and develop the paediatric orthopaedic service across the University Hospitals Tees Group
  • Support the achievement of performance and financial targets for the department
