Interview date- 20th April 2026
We are recruiting for a Consultant Otolaryngologist with a Special Interest in Otology who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
Main duties of the job
This role is to provide consultant services to maintain the capacity of the department during a period of expansion. The post holder will be expected to provide a subspecialist Otology service, whilst continuing to undertake the management of General ENT patients at MMH.
This is a supplementary post and will be based at Medway Maritime Hospital with possible sessions at Darent Valley Hospital if there is a requirement in future. The successful candidate will join a team of 8 Consultant ENT Surgeons at MFT and 2 Consultants with a Special Interest in Head and Neck Surgery holding joint posts with Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.
The appointee will be expected to contribute to the provision and development of high quality general ENT care for the Medway and Darent Valley populations. The post is designed to support a busy general ENT service, whilst participating in the provision of a specialised otological disorders service at Medway. The current clincal lead/director carries aspirations for regional otology collaboration in the near future.
We are committed to endorsing diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion; our policies / procedures ensure that all applicants are treated fairly at every stage of the recruitment process.
To contribute to our exciting future and become part of our team, apply today.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The appointee will participate fully in the clinical activities of the Department, providing general emergency ENT cover 1:8 during the week, each ‘day’ being 14 hours from 6.00pm-8.00am, and 1:8 weekends, each ‘day’ being 24 hours from 8.00am-8.00am on Saturday and Sunday. When on-call he/she will provide full support and advice to the StR and middle grade staff, and supervise/undertake whatever emergency surgery is required. He/she will undertake on-call ward rounds on weekends in the course of delivering this on-call support, and be available to advise and support other specialties within the hospital as necessary. Our unit provides ENT services for Darent Valley Hospital and its Dartford and Gravesham population, and almost all emergencies from that hospital are transferred to Medway if specialist ENT care is required. However, on rare occasions it is necessary for the on-call Consultant to provide on-site care at Darent Valley Hospital, within their ITU or A&E Departments, occasionally making use of their theatres.
The appointee will have responsibility for all patients under his/her care, and will guide and help junior medical and non-medical staff in delivering this care. He/she will work within the close working relationship that characterizes this department, and support the philosophy of sub-specialisation whilst providing generalist expertise as well.
