An opportunity has arisen to join the Trauma and Orthopaedics team at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled surgeon with a specialist interest in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, periprosthetic fractures, and complex lower limb trauma, including periarticular reconstruction.

This post is designed to enhance our elective and trauma services. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality care across both planned arthroplasty and unplanned trauma pathways, with a focus on complex joint reconstruction and periprosthetic challenges.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver elective orthopaedic services, focusing on: Primary hip and knee replacements Revision hip and knee arthroplasty Management of periprosthetic fractures

  • Participate in the consultant trauma rota, with emphasis on: Complex lower limb trauma including  periarticular fracture reconstruction Hip replacements for trauma

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including specialist nurses, trauma coordinators, and physiotherapists, to deliver patient-centred care.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, service development, and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide education and supervision for Leicester trainees, junior doctors, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to MDTs, fracture clinics, and elective surgical planning meetings.
  • Support implementation of national best practice guidance (e.g. GIRFT, NICE, BOA).
