The appointee will be also responsible for contributing to and coordinating the training of medical staff, hospital based optometrists and orthoptic staff who work within NWAFT’s MR Service.

Main duties of the job

He/she is responsible for the day-to-day management of his/her clinics and must ensure that in/out-patient services are covered during his/her planned absences.

Participation in episodes of shared care requires the consultant to provide advice and support to clinicians in other services regarding patients who may have a combination of ocular problems.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide outpatients clinics: new, review and treatment
  • Become involved in the interdisciplinary care of patients within the Surgery Department.
  • Continue to progress and develop ophthalmology service
  • Become involved in regional networks
  • Participate in clinical audit.
  • Initiate and be involved in service development in their areas of special interest and in line with the Trust’s vision.
  • Be expected to take an active part in continuing education.
  • Undertake and participate in the appraisal process and job planning as part of revalidation
  • The Trust encourages involvement in clinical governance
