Job overview

This  post is for a Community Neurodevelopmental Consultant delivering care across Chorley South Ribble and Greater Preston.

The Consultant Community Paediatrician will provide expertise in Community Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics and is expected to manage the full range of presentations in this area of practice alongside various colleagues. This is a replacement post in view of a recent retirement.

You will work closely within a team of 8 consultants and one speciality doctor to provide input to children and young people with a range of Neurodevelopmental conditions, e.g. autism, Special Educational Needs or Neurodisability and contribute to Initial Health Care Assessments of children / young people who are being Looked After (Children in care).

Main duties of the job

Some of the duties will be to:

  • - Manage own case load and undertake the specialist medical assessment, investigation and clinical management of children and young people presenting with Neurodevelopmental / Neurodisability related problems.
  • Participate in the multi-agency assessment and management of children with social communication and interaction difficulties.
  • Work closely with the learning disability team and with CAMHS services in management of disabled children with challenging behaviour.
  • Carry out health assessments for Looked After children  in Chorley/ South Ribble and Greater Preston at either Chorley or Preston.
  • Provide medical advice for Education Health and Care Plans for children under our care
  • Attend weekly Multi-disciplinary team meetings for Autism and ADHD panels. You will be expected to follow the trust policies and local guidelines for diagnosing Autism and ADHD.
  • As we are a teaching hospital, willingness to participate in OSCE sessions and student teaching is required
