Applications are invited for a part time (0.5WTE of 5 fixed sessions per week), consultant musculoskeletal radiologist  with an interest in SPECT CT, at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.

The successful candidate will work with the current team to provide the highest level of patient care in musculoskeletal imaging including diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal radiology and will be expected to be active in research, presentation and publication.

The department has 14 full time consultant radiologists.

The hospital is a leading institution of international reputation in the field of orthopaedics and is a centre of excellence for complex spinal and MSK oncological treatment. The primary base is at Brockley Hill, Stanmore Middlesex supported by Central London outpatient facilities.

We are seeking a candidate that works with a patient/problem-orientated approach to orthopaedic conditions.

Full GMC  registration and entry on the GMC specialist register with CCT or equivalent (proposed CCT/CESR date must be within 3 months of interview)

Musculoskeletal Radiology fellowship including evidence of extensive bone and soft tissue sarcoma experience.

Quantitative demonstration of dedicated MSK (including spinal) interventional procedural experience.

Management or Leadership experience - e.g. rota/leave coordinator.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be expected to maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of musculoskeletal radiology and will undertake any reasonable clinical responsibility which relates to all aspects of this.

The postholder will be expected to be actively involved in the management of the department including attendance at MDT and monthly meetings. They will be expected to participate and present in the weekly bone and soft tissue sarcoma MDT. Knowledge and experience of bone and soft tissue sarcoma radiology is imperative for the post. In addition, the post holder is expected to cover weekly general and local anaesthetic biopsy lists for bone and soft tissue lesions. Experience in complex spinal intervention is necessary, including biopsies and facet/nerve root injections.

  • Experience of tertiary level Paediatric radiology is paramount. The post holder will be expected to participate in the weekly CRMO Paediatric MDT. Other MDT’s which they will be asked to lead on occasionally includes the Myeloma MDT/ Scoliosis-spine deformity MDT. Other interventional lists include fluoroscopic guided joint injections, synovial biopsies and ultrasound guided injections. Diagnostic ultrasound experience of soft tissue lesions is also vital for this role. Any experience in MSK SPECT-CT radiology reporting, Baby hip ultrasound evaluating for dysplasia and cryoablation will be welcomed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder would be expected to work five fixed sessions (less than full time). The appointee will have direct care sessions on both Trust sites: the main hospital in Stanmore, Middlesex and its Outpatient facility at Bolsover Street in Central London.  5 programmed Activities (PAs) will be offered, to include 4 PA Direct Clinical Care and 1 Supporting Professional Activities. One weekly evening ultrasound list is a requirement.

The post-holder would be expected to mainly undertake all aspects of musculoskeletal SPECT-CT and Dual Energy SPECT-CT reporting with contribution to the newly formed Bone Infection MDT service. The post holder will also contribute to the wide array of general musculoskeletal radiology caseload at RNOH, including interventional and diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound lists, fluoroscopically guided joint injections, bone and soft tissue biopsies, CT-guided musculoskeletal interventional lists, in addition to sharing in the reporting of complex orthopaedic cross-sectional and plain film imaging.
