Job overview

Adult and Paediatric Interventional Radiology Consultant

This post is based at both Aintree Hospital and Alder Hey children's hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have completed formal training in interventional radiology and will be expected to offer a wide range of general and emergency interventional procedures for both adults and children. Specialist Fellowship training is preferable for the paediatric IR work.

The appointee will also be expected to contribute to the work in the interventional radiology departments, including vetting, clinical advice, ultrasound intervention, CT guided procedures and IR theatre work.

Candidates will also be required to join the LUHFT IR on call rota. The post will also include cover for paediatric out of hours vascular emergencies on the days on-call for LUHFT.  This is a 10 PA job plan with 1.25 PAs allocated for the dual site on-call as above. Any additional paediatric on-call work can be agreed via a service level agreement.

In the future if there are 5 paediatric IRs suitable to form a separate paediatric on-call rota, there would be an aspiration of migrating from the LUHFT on-call to an Alder Hey only IR on-call (not purely vascular emergencies) on a 1:5 rota.

During the 1.5 allocated SPAs (1 SPA can be taken off site), the post holder will be expected to contribute to the management, training and research activities of the department.

The post is based at both Aintree Hospital and Alder Hey children's hospital.
