Applications are invited for a consultant post in the Norfolk and Norwich Vascular Unit. This is a part-additional and part-replacement post in response to a colleague taking up a senior management role and the need to increase vascular cover at our spoke hospitals.
The successful applicant would spend one day a week at the James Paget University Hospital and the remaining time at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital.
You should be fully trained in all aspects of vascular and endovascular surgery and there will be the opportunity to develop a sub-specialist interest that complements those of your colleagues. You would be joining a team of 9 consultant vascular surgeons with an on-call commitment of 1 in 8.
We operate an 8-week rota comprised of 2 on-call weeks followed by 6 weeks of elective activity. It is encouraged that annual leave is taken during the elective weeks.
On-call is shared with a colleague so that on weekdays during the daytime there are two consultants on duty (1st and 2nd on-call). This system provides continuity of care, robust consultant cover during busy periods and support from a consultant colleague for difficult and/or complex cases. There is also a consultant vascular/interventional radiologist and team on-call 24/7.
The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals.
All consultants, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management.
The appointee will be a member of the Consultant Staff Committee and be expected to serve on this committee.
For informal enquiries please contact Mr Darren Morrow, Service Director for Vascular Surgery, on 01603 286442 or Mr James Hernon, Chief of Service for Surgery, on 01603 287688. Any of the consultant vascular surgeons would also be pleased to discuss the post with a prospective colleague. Please visit www.nnuh.nhs.uk to learn more about the Trust.
