Applications are invited for a full-time substantive consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery who is fellowship trained in knee surgery including revision knee replacement. This post is a replacement post accounting for a reduction in activity from existing members of the department as they become more senior.

All future senior medical and dental appointments will be expected to work in collaboration across the Group and, irrespective of initial job description and job plan, be willing to work on more than one hospital site, dependent on service needs. Service location may change as our future models of care are developed by our clinically led networks through our acute clinical strategy. Main duties of the job

The appointee will be expected to carry out the whole spectrum of surgery within knee arthroplasty surgery managing their own elective practice, including in terms of outpatients, day cases and inpatients, as well as the full spectrum of trauma that is admitted to NNUH.

The successful candidate will need to be competent in primary management of all areas of acute trauma, although support in specialist areas such as paediatrics & spines is provided and referral of complex cases to colleagues with specialist interests is common. The new consultant should expect to receive referrals for complex problems related to their subspecialty interest. These cases will be accommodated in their elective / additional trauma lists.

All consultants in T&O at NNUH share office space, junior doctor & secretarial support & the successful candidate will be expected to do so on an equitable basis.

The trust supports the principle of mentoring for all new consultants and has plans to formally incorporate this into Trust policy in the near future.
