Job overview

This post delivers stroke care across the Regional Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) - Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) model for South West London based at Kingston Hospital and participating in the weekend on call rota at the St George's Hospital HASU.

Therefore, we are looking for enthusiastic and able stroke physicians. The successful applicant will join the current one substantive stroke physician at Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust, running the Stroke and TIA services here.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a forward-thinking team at a Trust rated Outstanding by the CQC for both quality and leadership. You will play a central role in designing and delivering new models of care that cross organisational boundaries.

We are seeking enthusiastic and committed consultants with a passion for innovation, collaboration, and high-quality care for stroke patients. In return, you will join a supportive, multidisciplinary environment with strong links to primary care, community services, and regional partners, and have the opportunity to help shape the future of stroke care at local and regional levels.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to the delivery of a high-quality stroke service, by providing daily consultant-led and consultant-delivered care to patients and support to the staff on the stroke unit (in conjunction with the other stroke Consultant) as per Healthcare for London Stroke standards

To lead and support the multi-disciplinary team with complex discharge planning. To contribute to the delivery of the clinical governance and risk management strategy to our services. To provide teaching, educational and clinical supervision for the resident medical team.

Consultants will be expected to provide clinical leadership, and work collaboratively with colleagues across primary, secondary, and community services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will rotate onto the St. Georges HASU rota covering weekends on call with the expectation of daily ward round on the 20-bed HASU (and outliers if appropriate) and being the senior on call stroke specialist for thrombolysis and thrombectomy (both of which are provided on a 24/7 basis).
