We are seeking a highly trained individual for one substantive replacement post to join the Pain Management Department at Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust. This is a substantive consultant post in Pain Medicine. We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic colleague, who is committed to maintain the highest standards in patient care, and who shares the team vision to develop the Pain services at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities: · Participate in the provision of a safe, effective and efficient Pain Services, and with the proper functioning of the Anaesthetic Department. This will include some flexibility of fixed commitments. · Support the Consultant-delivered Perioperative Medicine Service. · Be prepared to work on both sites of the Trust, some elective chronic pain invasive sessions do occur cross site when necessary. · Assist when required in the provision of Critical Care services. Work flexibly to support the workload and cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised flexibility within the role will be required
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Participate in the provision of a safe, effective and efficient Pain Services, and with the proper functioning of the Anaesthetic Department. This will include some flexibility of fixed commitments.
- Be prepared to work on both sites of the Trust, some elective chronic pain invasive sessions do occur cross site when necessary.
- Assist when required in the provision of Critical Care services.
- Support the Consultant-delivered Perioperative Medicine Service.
Work flexibly to support the workload and cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised flexibility within the role will be required.
Clinical Management & Teaching:
- Participate in the professional supervision, management, support and teaching of Anaesthetic/Pain trainees.
- Follow the best practice standards in pain management as provide by Core Standards for Pain Management Services in the UK – second edition.
- Be familiar with chronic pain related NICE guidelines.
- Be familiar with the Royal College of Anaesthetists’ curriculum for Junior Doctor training, and contribute to their training requirements, including tutorials and educational supervision
- Organise and participate in teaching sessions for undergraduate students and post-graduate medical staff and other health professionals.
Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance:
- Participate fully in Clinical Governance, including reporting of incident, investigation of serious incidents, and the effective handling of any complaints
- Participate in the Clinical Audit programme of the department
- Comply with the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes as stipulated by the Divisional and Medical Directors
- The post holder is responsible for data quality and complying with the policies, procedures and accountability arrangements throughout the Trust for maintaining accuracy and probity in the recording of the Trust’s activities.
Continuing Professional Development:
- Participate in continuing professional development at local and national level
- Implement audit and research findings as appropriate in clinical practice
- Implement Nice guidelines into practice.
- Prepare and participate in an annual appraisal in accordance with Trust policy, and meet the requirements for revalidation
- Demonstrate willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
- In line with GMC Good Medical Practice it is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard, and in accordance with current quality initiatives within the area of work.
- Contribute to and/or support research. Formal research duties taken up after commencement in post may be assessed for additional SPA time.
