Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical leadership and senior input into the care of children and young people attending the Emergency Department.

The post holder will ensure high-quality, evidence-based care through rapid assessment, resuscitation, and treatment, working across the dedicated children's department and co-located adult areas as required.

Main duties of the job

Key duties include leading the multidisciplinary team, clinical supervision of junior staff, maintaining patient safety and flow, and leading on child safeguarding within the ED.

Provide clinical ED sessions with senior input into paediatric patient care and ensuring appropriate discharge and hospital admission, along with management and leadership responsibilities for children in the ED. This will include running the paediatric part of the Emergency Department – seeing emergency cases and supervising junior staff and other allied ED staff.

Supporting the PEM lead with managerial responsibility for quality improvement, guidelines, department design and process for paediatric patients. Along with facilitating audit and research activities within and between the ED and Paediatric Departments.

Support to ensure robust PEM teaching and training for all doctors and nurses within the ED. Actively participating in Emergency preparedness for a major incident involving children.

Other activities as allocated by the PEM lead or ED Medical Service Head.
