Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Full-Time Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a special interest in facial deformity to join the established and supportive Maxillofacial Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital provides Oral and Maxillofacial services across Norfolk through close links with adjacent trusts Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn and The James Paget hospital on the east coast. The head and neck catchment area covers a population of 1.4 million people and also includes Ipswich Hospital who merged with Colchester hospital to form the East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT). This post would be primarily based at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital with on-call, in patient operating and general clinics being performed there. Going forward there may be a need to conduct a peripheral clinic weekly in one of our adjacent hospitals but this will be discussed and agreed before any changes to the job plan are made.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work closely with our multidisciplinary team, including consultants, orthodontists, anaesthetists, and specialist nursing staff, to deliver high-quality care to patients requiring orthognathic and facial deformity surgery. This role will involve active participation in outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, multidisciplinary team meetings, and audit and teaching activities within the department.

The post offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the deformity service at NNUH while gaining valuable experience in a busy tertiary referral centre with a broad case mix. The successful candidate will be supported by experienced colleagues and will be encouraged to engage in service improvement, research, and training initiatives.
