Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Consultant General Physician and Nephrologist to join our friendly and enthusiastic team at the James Paget University Hospital.

The appointee will have responsibilities to the general medical on call as well as providing occasional ward round cover to the medical acute admission. There will also be the opportunity to play a significant teaching role in the Norwich Medical School.

Prospective candidates should be within 6 months of obtaining a CCT, or be listed on the Specialist Register of the GMC, for Nephrology and General (Internal) Medicine or be seeking to work towards a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).

Main duties of the job

  • Share work load with consultant physician colleagues.
  • Provide with the other Consultants a system of mutual out-of-hours cover for General Internal Medicine and cover for annual, study and professional leave.
  • Provide a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialties in the Trust.
  • Liaise with medical staff in other specialties and participate in the regular clinical meetings and other post-graduate activities of the hospital.
  • Take part in the continuing medical education programme.  The Trust will provide study leave expenses in line with national terms and conditions of service.
  • Play a full part in the teaching, audit and other governance activities of the department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be joining Dr Jean Patrick and Dr Nishamanie Karunasena in running the renal services at James Paget University Hospitals. It would be expected that the post holder would work collaboratively with the renal team at the NNUH to improve the provision for renal patients at the James Paget. The renal services include  inpatient cover, outpatient renal clinics, supporting the outpatient haemodialysis unit and opportunity to be involved in research activity and teaching.
