Job overview

Applications are invited for a (10PA) Consultant in Medicine for the Elderly at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our clinical team and participate in the development of clinical services for older adults in Cambridgeshire.

This post is open to applicants with geriatrics speciality training. Applicants are required to be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting time for the Department of Medicine for the Elderly. We are in the process of expanding our department and are particularly interested in developing innovative processes of care for our patient population. We currently provide specialist care on a Frailty and Acute Medicine for the Elderly unit, and four ‘Core’ Medicine for the Elderly wards. We have an established rapid access service for GPs (RADAR) SDEC clinic and trust-wide specialist geriatric liaison teams. We have also expanded into the ‘interface’ between hospital and community, with successful pilots in care home outreach and rehabilitation units that are due expansion.

We are very keen to develop our existing interest in education and training of residents and would also welcome and support applicants with an interest in utilising the research opportunities available to those working within a biomedical research campus.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post will offer opportunities for working across a range of clinical settings including core Medicine for the Elderly wards and the Frailty and Acute Medicine for the Elderly unit (AFU).  The consultant will support the development of our Flagship Frailty Pathway with expansion of our specialist ambulatory care service and intensification of front-door services. Support would be given for the development of sub-speciality interest. Successful candidates will be able to participate in the general medicine (GIM) on call rota if desired.
