Applications are invited to join our forward-thinking, friendly department in Critical Care, with the option of an associated specialty at Mid-Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital in the leafy Cheshire countryside near Crewe and Nantwich - a beautiful Cheshire market town.

Within thirty minutes of the hospital are innumerable pretty towns and villages to reside in, plus beautiful walking and cycling routes at your door. There are also a great number of schools in the surrounding area with high Ofsted ratings in both the Independent and State Sectors.

The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise.  The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training.

The post is offered at 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), on a full-time basis; however, the Trust would welcome discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support a different work life balance.

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to visit the department prior to interview.

The proposed AAC date is 19 June 2026.

Main duties of the job

The post’s emphasis for clinical work will be on Adult Critical Care, with the option additional sessions in an associated specialty.

The new Consultant will join the existing team of Consultants providing clincial cover for the Critical Care Unit, who work closely together and act as a very supportive group with a determined ethos.

The spacious Critical Care Unit, located adjacent to the theatre suite, was opened around 10 years ago, and was expanded in the last 5 years to provide an integrated 18 bedded area, with four potential isolation rooms, and the ability to cohort into a four-bedded area separate from the main unit.

This exciting opportunity also allows the successful candidate to widen their interest in an associated specialty areas, alongside dedicated teams of Consultants who are focused on improving outcomes and patient experience.
