Job overview

We wish to appoint a Consultant Paediatrician to join our team of dedicated general paediatricians. We welcome applicants with a special interest in Respiratory, Neurology, Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics, Oncology, or other relevant subspecialty areas. We are looking for a colleague who demonstrates flexibility and a willingness to develop additional skills in response to the evolving subspecialty needs of the department.

You will be expected to participate in the Consultant on call rota (1:14) and current service week arrangements at Morriston Hospital.  undertaken. This is a ten-session post with appropriate sessions for supporting professional activities.

Initially, the post will comprise 7 sessions of Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 3 SPA sessions for the first three months to support new consultant induction and professional development. Following this period, the job plan will transition to 8 DCC sessions and 2 SPA sessions. We welcome applications from candidates wishing to work less than full time (LTFT). Please note that the on-call commitment will remain at 1.0 WTE irrespective of LTFT status.

Main duties of the job

Your role as part of a multi-disciplinary team will include responsibility for the provision of clinical care for children and young people focusing on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. Your management responsibilities will include the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the services in which you work in line with the values, operational policies and integrated medium-term plan (IMTP) of the Health Board. You are encouraged to consider how services can be improved and to report any concerns about safety. You will participate in the Consultant on call rota at Morriston Hospital, with prospective cover. In exceptional circumstances it may be necessary to undertake duties at other locations with the Health Board.  Travelling as necessary between hospitals/clinic will be required to undertake such duties.  Travel expenses will be remunerated according to the Health Board policy. There may be changes to the consultant working patterns as part of improving workforce within the department. You will be required to comply with current procedures for the control of infection, including dress-code, to challenge non-compliance by colleagues, and to attend training in infection control provided by the Health Board. You may be asked to be the Educational Supervisor for trainees.  This will involve overseeing their training and being the initial source of advice for doctors regarding their careers.
