Bangor ED is unique. Sandwiched between the mountains of Snowdonia and the Isle of Anglesey, this is the place to enjoy rural Emergency Medicine. Our happy, friendly department (seeing 55,000 patients pa) is developing fast as we pursue our goal of excellence in rural Emergency Medicine.  We are looking to appoint a Consultant to join our team on a permanent basis. We offer a civilized 1 in 8 rota, and the Welsh Consultant Contact is based upon 7 DCC: 3 SPA (full time) which provides flexibility in job planning.  As for life in North Wales, if you like outdoor pursuits, you’ll be in heaven here: everything from hill-walking to kite-surfing is on the doorstep. Yet we are only a one-hour drive from Chester and the M6, and three hours from London by train.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder would be expected to contribute to clinical and educational activities within the Directorate as determined by the Consultant and colleagues and provide a high quality service to the local population.
  • The post holder would be 1 in 8 on call. The post holder will be required to cover for periods of colleagues leave
  • The post holder is to assist nominated consultants in the supervision and teaching of junior trainees.
  • The post holder would be expected to contribute to local clinical governance activities including clinical audit and clinical risk initiative
  • The post holder would be required to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services and expected to share with all colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
  • The post holder is required to travel as necessary between hospitals and clinics. A planned and cost-effective approach is expected
  • The post holder will have access to a full team of administrative and clerical support staff as well as office accommodation with a personal computer, e-mail, and internet access.
