Job summary

The Rotherham Foundation Trust (TRFT) is committed to providing the highest quality care to the children and families of Rotherham and this is an exciting opportunity to join the trust as a valued Consultant Paediatrician providing senior medical input into the Community Paediatric team. We are pleased to offer the opportunity for an enthusiastic forward thinking community paediatrician with well-rounded experience and training to join our existing team

The post will give the candidate the opportunity to work in a range of community settings such as Special Schools and Community clinics although you will be based in Rotherham Hospital to ensure easy access to regular team meetings, supportive colleagues (including acute and community paediatricians) & good administrative support

This role will offer the opportunity to take a strategic safeguarding role within Rotherham as the Designated Doctor for Safeguarding. This is a statutory role within the ICB which is bought in from Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, one day a week

There will also be an opportunity if desired to be involved in the Children in Care service carrying out adoption work sitting on the adoption panel and ensuring high quality medical advice/statutory documentation to inform multi-agency decision making

Main duties of the job

This role is offered as a part-time permanent post 3.5 days per week and will comprise a job plan including 2 or more of the following.

  • Allocated doctor for one or more of Rotherhams special schools, providing assessment, monitoring, advice and well-planned transition to adult services, as well as working closely with the SEND nursing and therapy teams.
  • Delivering neurodevelopmental clinics within the community
  • Carrying out Initial Health Assessments for children coming into care
  • Carrying out medicals and associated work for the Children in Care service
  • Designated Doctor for Safeguarding role

There are opportunities for the post-holder to expand their portfolio and personal interests and to take part and lead in ongoing service development. There will also be educational opportunities on offer to supervise and teach specialty community paediatric trainees and/or medical students from Sheffield University in clinical and group settings.
