Job overview

This is a full-time post for a Consultant Cardiologist with sub-specialty interest in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) and is designed to keep up with the increasing demands on our local service due to a gap in our workforce. Applicants will be required to have, in addition to training and experience in PCI, a wide range of experience in general cardiology and will join 11 full time and one part-time cardiology consultants in the Trust. The successful applicant will join 4 existing Consultant colleagues in delivering our PCI service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to work with colleagues at both sites as required to support the service. The post holder will contribute to the current 1:11 Consultant of the week model for delivering cardiology inpatient care at CRH. There will also be a commitment to a 1:11 cardiology on call service/ weekend rota across the Trust. There is no commitment to general medicine on call.

Applications are encouraged from experienced consultants wishing to take up a new challenge or newly accredited consultants who will be supported through our highly regarded development programmes. The post holder is encouraged to develop his/her own sub-specialty interest.

This is a Full-Time post providing 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), but applicants wishing to work part-time are also encouraged to apply and job plans will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees. Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if in a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the GMC Specialist Register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee. Applicants must continue to hold a License to Practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will participate in a 1:11 Consultant of the week (COW) model, delivering cardiology inpatient care at CRH. During the COW week, the post holder will work on the cardiology ward 6C doing  ward round in the morning (CCU ward round is provided by a separate consultant in morning) and provide a focal point for cardiology-related queries including CCU, AMU and GPs in the afternoon.

During the non-COW weeks, the weekly timetable will include, cath lab / PCI sessions, CCU ward round (no more than one morning per week), OP clinics, weekly PCI MDT and sub-speciality sessions as agreed with the Clinical Director, along-side dedicated time for Admin and SPA.

The post holder will participate in a 1 in 11 on-call out-of-hours rota for Cardiology (1:11 weekend on-call). There is no commitment to general medicine on call.
