Job overview

The Histopathology department consists of a dynamic and enthusiastic team of consultants all dedicated to their areas of sub-specialisation. The department is looking for similar team members to join the existing 10  consultants and a consultant biomedical scientist to maintain the excellent quality and TATs to deliver the ever increasing workload.  However all sub-specialisation interest and or general work will be catered for.  All candidates will be offered a 6 PA contract.

The 6 PA job plan consists of 4.5 PAs of DCC and 1.5 PAs of SPA. The department utilises a modified RCPath Warwick point system and individual workload is matched to their experience. The department also performs coronial autopsies and an interest in post-mortem will be helpful however it is not essential. The department is fully UKAS accredited to ISO15189:2022 and the trust is a regional centre for Urology.

The Department had successfully contributed to the Cheshire & Mersey digital pathology pilot project and is in the process of implementing full digitalisation of cellular pathology after a successful national bid and the department is currently reporting in excess of 40% digitally reported. The network is also in the process of procuring a network wide new pathology laboratory information computer system.

Main duties of the job

Histopathologists fully support MDTs with weekly meetings with Breast, Colorectal, Respiratory, Urological, Dermatological and Haematology cancer teams. Fortnightly meetings are held with the Gynaecological cancer team and the thyroid cancer team. Also monthly liver and IBD review meetings are held. A microscope and audio-visual facilities are available at these locations and a range of other clinico-pathological meetings are also held. All consultants are encouraged to participate in their relevant EQA schemes. The trust is a regional centre for both urology and penile specialities.
