Job overview

A Consultant Doctor in Diabetes and Endocrinology is required to join the existing team of Doctors in Salford Royal Hospital, part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA).

The Team consists of 9 consultants, 3 specialist trainees, junior doctors, specialist nurses and allied health professionals who are responsible for providing tertiary level care to patients with pituitary, thyroid, adrenal and other hormone-related diseases. The department provides a large, highly progressive diabetes technology service and is the only specialist bariatric center in the region.

Salford Royal Hospital is also one of the largest referral centers in the United Kingdom for neurosciences/pituitary surgery and is a regional service for specialist endocrine surgery.

This appointment will be for a 7.5 pa's contract and will be made on the new Consultant Doctor contract with a suitable job plan arranged in conjunction with the Clinical Director.

Main duties of the job

Our Diabetes and Endocrinology consultants are responsible for providing specialist care in an inpatient setting as well as specialty outpatient clinics in acute and community locations.

The General Medicine responsibility of this post is to provide ward-based care for one of the general medical wards and other patients admitted under the team, in outlier wards.  You will also be part of the on-call rota currently 1 in 8.

The ideal candidate will be innovative, forward thinking and supportive to developing an all-encompassing integrated service to support the residents of Salford across primary and secondary care. The Department is also committed to quality improvement projects which can form the basis of publications and presentations at national conferences. In addition to furthering professional development with respect to clinical aspects of Diabetes and Endocrine medicine, there will also be opportunities to furthering skills as a medical educator in relation to delivering supervision and support for all specialty medicine trainees.
