Join Our Expanding Cardiology Team – Consultant Cardiologist Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Cardiologist with a Specialist Interest. This is your chance to become part of a dynamic, forward-thinking team delivering high-quality care across multiple sites.

You will work across Basildon and the Cardio-Thoracic Centre (CTC), contributing to both general cardiology services and your chosen subspecialty. We are seeking a clinician with strong all-round cardiology expertise, including bradycardia pacing, alongside a defined specialist interest—such as complex devices or cardiac imaging.

This full-time (10 PA) role, with the potential for an additional +2 APAs, has been designed to support the rapid expansion of our cardiology services. You’ll play a key role in shaping and developing the service while delivering excellent patient care.

We value professional growth and innovation. You’ll be encouraged to further develop your subspecialty skills, with dedicated time, mentorship, and training support available. Up to 2 PAs per week can be protected for your specialist interest, allowing you to build expertise and make a meaningful impact.

If you’re an ambitious cardiologist ready to take the next step in a collaborative and progressive environment, we’d love to hear from you.

**Confirmed AAC Panel Date of 24th June 2026**

Main duties of the job

You will contribute to the Consultant of the Week on‑call rota at Basildon on a 1:8 basis, providing senior clinical leadership and timely decision-making for acute cardiology patients. You will also participate in the bradycardia pacing service, including joining the device on‑call rota (1:8), ensuring safe and effective management of patients requiring pacing support.

You will work closely with Consultant Cardiologists, Cardiac Nurse Specialists, Clinical Physiologists and multidisciplinary teams across the Trust to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care, maintaining strong collaborative links with other specialties on site.

You will undertake clinical duties in line with the agreed job plan, including supporting professional activities such as continuing professional development, audit, and service improvement. Additional sessions may include approved research, teaching or management responsibilities. You will agree the scheduling of these activities with the Clinical Chair.

You will ensure full compliance with Trust policies and clinical governance standards, including timely triage of referrals, completion of discharge summaries prior to patient discharge, appropriate management of non-attendances (DNA), and accurate, timely clinical documentation to support effective patient care and service delivery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Clinical Director and General Manager are responsible for the review of the job plan in conjunction with the post-holder. The job plan for the first three months will be based on the provisional timetable shown below.

A formal job plan will be agreed with the appointee and their Clinical Director, on behalf of the Medical Director, three months after the commencement date of the appointee. This will be signed by the Chief Executive and will then be reviewed annually, following an Appraisal Meeting.

It is expected that the job planning process will be approached with professionalism, honesty, and transparency.
