Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to join to join the anaesthetic team of 65 Consultants and 10 SAS doctors at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
The department is a dynamic, forward thinking and innovative department covering a wide range of specialties. The department delivers anaesthesia across 4 sites namely the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Saint Michael's Hospital, West Cornwall Hospital and the St Austell Surgical Hub.
We are looking to appoint Consultants in General anaesthesia (with an interest in POA/perioperative care) and Obstetric anaesthesia.

Job Overview:
The successful applicant will take part in the general on-call rota (approx 1 in 30) and will provide long day (08.00 to 20.30) CEPOD or Trauma emergency theatre provision on approximately 10 occasions per year.

As a general rule, the post holder can expect the post to include: - Four to five elective anaesthetic lists per week. - The department also utilises fixed flexi sessions and annualised flexi sessions to provide the post-holder and the department with flexibility and to maintain and increase exposure to previous or new competencies for the post-holder. - A share of the emergency CEPOD and Trauma 12 hour lists, at a frequency of approximately one list every 4 weeks, with internal cover from an average pool of eight anaesthetists for that session. - A 1:30 on-call for anaesthesia, or as may be required to meet departmental needs. The postholder will not be rostered for elective work immediately following any on-call. - 2.5 SPAs (in the first year) - 1.25 PAs per list to include pre and post op care. All day lists count as 2.5 PA - On call is remunerated as a result of bi-annual diary exercise, currently about 1PA. - Negotiable – 1.75 PAs: Participation in the Trauma Transfer Consultant on call rota for those who express an interest and have the required training. This PA allocation is annualised and whose rota is written flexibly well in advance based on individuals’ availability
