Applications are invited for this this new post within the Cardiology Department with a focus on transcatheter valve intervention at the Leeds General Infirmary. Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) is one of the leading interventional cardiology units in the United Kingdom, with a national & international profile for service, innovation, and research. LTHT serves a regional population of 2.8 million in West Yorkshire and performs over 1100 primary PCI procedures annually, making it the highest volume PPCI centre in the UK. In total, more than 2300 PCI procedures are carried out annually, including complex PCI and CTO procedures. The transcatheter valve intervention service is internationally renowned. Over 600 TAVI procedures are performed annually, the highest volume in the UK. We are the commissioned regional centre for mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER). Other percutaneous structural interventions performed include mitral commissurotomy; tricuspid TEER; transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve replacement; and paravalvular leak closure. Leeds is at the forefront of innovation, research, and education in transcatheter valve intervention. There are currently 11 Leeds-based interventional cardiology consultants, 4 of whom provide the transcatheter valve service with the support of 2 Structural Fellows, 5 Valve Nurse Specialists, and 3 Structural Research Nurses. Visiting coronary interventionists also contribute to the PPCI on-call rota.
The successful applicant will specialise in transcatheter valve intervention. We are seeking an individual focused on excellence and innovation, who will contribute to the delivery and development of the TAVI, mitral, and tricuspid programmes in Leeds. The post-holder will contribute to the rotas for acute and primary PCI, as well as ward care of coronary artery disease patients. A major interest in clinical research is expected. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is desirable. The successful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register. If shortlisted, you will be required to give a 10 minute presentation on: How I will develop the valve & structural intervention service in Leeds Applicants should have established skills in Coronary Intervention and its related specialties including TAVI. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable. Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.
