Job overview

We are very excited to share that our Waltham Forest Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (WF CAMHS) has a full-time (37.5hrs) opportunity for a Band 6 Learning Disability or Mental Health Nurse to join us. This is a split role, 0.5 WTE in the Behavioural Pathway and 0.5 WTE in the Neurodevelopmental Pathway.

The post holder will be a registered Learning Disability or Mental Health Nurse.

This post is based at Wood Street Health Centre E17 3LA and will involve travelling between clinical sites and to homes and schools. This is an agile post and working from home will be supported at the discretion of the pathway leads.

We are looking to interview on Tuesday 3 March 2026.

Main duties of the job

In the Behavioural Pathway the work will involve providing assessment, formulation, and interventions to children with diagnosed or suspected learning/intellectual disability and/or autism, who are in distress and behaving in ways that are challenging; this includes support to the network.

In the Neurodevelopmental Pathway the work will involve providing assessment and formulation of neurodevelopmental difficulties, mainly autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We pride ourselves on having a compassionate, trauma-informed, evidence-based, anti-racist, and inclusive approach that puts both staff wellbeing and children and young people at its centre. You will be part of a large, supportive multi-disciplinary CAMHS team that also has a significant nursing presence.

As part of our trauma-informed approach, we strongly encourage good work/life balance, compassionate and approachable leadership, and collaborative team decision-making whenever possible. You will hold a caseload of children and families with complex needs. You will have a commitment to collaborative working and actively supporting and liaising with other health, education, and social care professionals in line with a trauma-informed, evidence-based, and inclusive model of practice within the service. You will be passionate about ensuring the child's voice is central to the work we do and work in partnership with families/carers and other agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for the child.
