We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist with an interest in working with older people. The role offers the opportunity to work in a holistic way to support older people who are experiencing challenges with their mental health.

This role is based within a well-established, multi-disciplinary team in South Derbyshire area. The Occupational Therapist is an essential member of the team. The role will involve managing Occupational Therapy referrals into the team, assessing the occupational needs of older adults with mental health conditions who live within their local community, co-designing and implementing person – centred occupation based interventions to support them to live their best life. This will include working with a variety of partners across the local community to ensure that we provide the right service at the right time by the right person.

You will receive regular clinical and professional supervision from one of the older adult community Occupational Therapy leads and support from the wider OT workforce and leadership team. There are many opportunities for participating in Occupational Therapy specific Continuing Professional Development activities within the trust and older peoples division.

Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapist in the team, you will support patients who would benefit from occupational therapy assessment and intervention.

This includes identifying those people who are both newly referred and already supported within the team who may benefit from Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention.

You will:

-        Play a key role in delivering occupation-based holistic, person-centred assessments and therapeutic interventions. Embrace the delivery of best practice guidelines for Mental Health and Occupational Therapy.

-        Be a dynamic clinician with good interpersonal skills is needed to enable engagement of service users and their families or carers.

-        Make complex decisions, formulate detailed assessments, and create person-centred support plans. Working as a Duty Worker is part of this role.

-        Offer and support Occupational Therapy student placements. Provide supervision to junior staff including Occupational Therapists. Participation in professional development activities is encouraged. Profession and older adult specific learning, supervision, wider support, and training are provided.
