Job overview

Are you a compassionate GP looking for a rewarding, flexible role that makes a real difference to patient recovery?

We are recruiting for a part-time GP to join our Bicester and City Community Hospitals on a 12 month fixed term contract working 8 hours per week on a Wednesday.

You'll be providing medical care for patients across both sites, spending half a day on each ward. You’ll work as part of a highly supportive multidisciplinary team, delivering holistic care to adults with frailty and complex needs. This is a unique opportunity to focus on comprehensive geriatric assessment, rehabilitation, and patient-centred care in a ward-based environment — without the pressures of out-of-hours work.

This role could offer you:

  • Meaningful patient relationships and clinical impact
  • Collaborative MDT working with excellent support
  • Leadership, teaching, and development opportunities
  • No current weekend or out-of-hours commitments

We are looking for candidates who have a full GMC registration with licence to practice, have completed GP training (either JCPTGP certificate (pre 2005) or MRCGP and have NHS clinical experience with older adults who have complex, multi-morbidity, frailty, and functional impairment. If you’re looking for a fulfilling role with real work-life balance — we’d love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

  • Proactive assessment of new admissions, including medical clerking within the clinical IT system, medication review, completion of drug charts, and agreement of an initial escalation plan.
  • Working collaboratively with the MDT throughout the patient’s admission to complete a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) and to develop an advanced care plan, incorporating patient and family input.
  • Responding to medical concerns as they arise, including history taking, examination, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and onward referral where appropriate.
  • Conducting a planned, formal weekly ward round to review all patients
  • Attending MDT meetings and board reviews, providing leadership in patient recovery planning and facilitating timely discharge.
  • Providing senior clinical support and supervision to trainee doctors and both trainee and qualified Advanced Care Practitioners.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues in community services, including Intensive Community Care and First Contact Care Pathways.
  • Undertaking clinically related administrative duties, including reviewing investigation results and completing discharge summaries.
