Job overview

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Psychological Therapist to join EMERGE Leeds: Complex Emotional Needs Service.

The post holder will contribute to a service that supports adults aged 18+ with complex emotional needs or difficulties consistent with a diagnosis of ‘personality disorder’. EMERGE Leeds has a particular emphasis on working with young adults, supporting transitions, and taking an early intervention approach. Our service works closely with community and third sector partners across Leeds to offer compassionate, trauma informed care to people who, often in the context of trauma, adversity, and the misuse of power, have developed coping strategies that lead to distress or harm.

As part of the role, the post holder will contribute to our established carers offer, including a long running peer support and psychoeducation group for family members, partners, and informal carers.

Another central component of the role will be inputting into our well established Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills group programme for adults aged 18 and over. While previous DBT experience is advantageous, we will provide appropriate training to the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist psychological input into the EMERGE Leeds: Complex Emotional Needs Service, including the city wide Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) team.
  • To work autonomously and make appropriate clinical decisions.
  • To provide high quality psychological assessment, formulation and therapy.
  • To offer advice on service users’ psychological care to clinical colleagues and other relevant agencies, working within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Trust’s policies and procedures.
  • To utilise research skills for audit, service evaluation and research within the service area.
  • To provide a key role in psychological aspects of service development in service areas of primary responsibility

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for a psychological therapist who is creative, flexible, and confident in working with the complex interpersonal dynamics that are intrinsic to this area of practice.

EMERGE Leeds sits within the wider Leeds Personality Disorder Services, which offer a reflective, supportive, and learning oriented environment for staff.

The team is based in Leeds and currently operates a hybrid model, working both face to face and remotely. Regular travel across Leeds by car is required.

Applicants must be registered healthcare professionals (e.g., nurse, psychologist, social worker) with relevant therapeutic qualifications and experience (as per person specification). We also warmly welcome applications from trainee clinical psychologists.

We recruit people based on their values and qualifications (where required) and believe that their lived experience is an advantage, this means that together we are as diverse as the communities we care for. Simply put, when we employ caring people who act with integrity and have the right skills, we can give those with mental health challenges, learning disabilities and neurodiversity high-quality care and support to live fulfilling lives, and make our staff feel purposeful, happy and valued.
