We are offering the opportunity for a qualified Psychologist to join our team of Psychologists/psychological practitioners working into Telford Local Authority's Family Safeguarding service. We also warmly welcome current 3rd Year Trainee Psychologists to apply on a Preceptorship basis, where appointment would be at Band 7, with progression to 8a over time.
The Family Safeguarding Parent Mental Health Service is delivered by Psychologists employed by Midlands Partnership Foundation NHS Trust (MPFT) and embedded within Telford County Council’s Family Safeguarding Service. The service aims to provide timely mental health assessments, risk evaluations, and evidence-based psychological interventions for parents involved in child protection, who may otherwise struggle to access mental health services. The post involves working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including Children’s Social Workers, Drug and Alcohol Recovery Workers, Domestic Abuse Practitioners, and Strengthening Families.
This is a varied and dynamic role aimed to meet the mental health needs of parents, and you will be well supported by both the existing psychological practitioners working into Family Safeguarding, and the wider large group of Psychologists and psychological practitioners in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. Main duties of the job
In the post you will:
- provide psychological assessment and evidence based interventions including a range of group and individual psychological interventions
- provide psychological assessment and interventions in relation to the impact of mental health difficulties in relation to parenting.
- provide specialist support, guidance and consultation on clients’ psychological care to other multi-disciplinary professionals
- work closely with both psychological therapies staff and other non-psychological therapy colleagues
- work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures
- utilise research skills for audit, teaching, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service
- provide clinical supervision for Assistant Psychologists, B7 therapists / psychologists and trainees.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
In the post you will work as part of the psychological practice team within Telford Local Authority, providing evidence based, effective psychological input and interventions within the Family Safeguarding model.
The role involves direct specialist psychological assessment, formulation and delivery of psychological interventions, evaluation of this input, and consultation and liaison with social workers and other professionals working in the multiagency setting.
