Job overview

Exciting opportunities at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust have arisen.  We are seeking a Clinical Vascular Scientist to join our large team of 11 clinical vascular scientists plus 2 STP students.  The vascular scanning department covers services over three sites, Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital. We have close relationships with the consultants and the LAVVU team, especially at Charing Cross with clinics, scanning rooms and a LAVVU theatre all on the same floor.

The job involves an interesting case load, we perform the full spectrum of vascular scans, plus specialist investigations such as AV fistula, TCD, TCCD for sickle cell and mesenterics for MALS and nutcracker syndrome. We support CPD, with interests in research, teaching or the SVT actively encouraged.  Non-clinical time is allocated for CPD and unit responsibilities. There are regular opportunities to attend conferences including the annual SVT and CX symposium.

We are an accredited STP & HSST training centre and play an active role in the programme. Suitable candidates have the opportunity to attend Train the Trainer and take on a training officer role for STPs. As an accredited HSST training centre we are also able to offer the opportunity to advance your development by applying for HSST (subject to funding approval).

As a band 7 CVS, we would expect you to be independently scanning and reporting and if not accredited with the CSVS, working towards this.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake, interpret and report ultrasound scans and other tests for vascular conditions.
  • To triage requests from clinicians, prioritise them according to clinical need and perform the appropriate test.
  • Provide expert advice, support and guidance to junior staff and to the wider vascular team.
