Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is an Associated Teaching Hospital of City St. George’s University of London and plays a significant role in medical student teaching. Nominally the post is for one year but there is flexibility according to career progression.
Candidates must have completed FY2 . You will organise and co-ordinate the teaching programme in Paediatrics, working together with the supervising Consultant and the Undergraduate staff at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. At least 50% of the postholder’s time will be spent on teaching activities and 50% on career progression in the form of clinical experience. It is intended that the latter will be tailored to the particular training needs of the post holder, and that he or she will use the opportunity to attain the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Education at St. George’s University of London (subject to seat availability)

Key Duties and Responsibilities
He/she will organise and co-ordinate the teaching programme in paediatrics working together with the Undergraduate managers, Undergraduate faculty lead for paediatrics and the Sub-dean. There will be a particular responsibility towards the delivery and planning of teaching for P year (equivalent to 4th year )MBBS students from St George’s University of London across both sites, international medical students at Epsom General Hospital and PA students. This role will also require to plan, organise and facilitate OSCES both as part of the students’ final assessment for their core rotations at ESTH and also for the Trust’s involvement with OSCE Workshops.
He/she will be expected not to take annual leave at times of the year when student inductions fall as their first week on placement is pivotal to their overall student experience. Although the post is based at St Helier Hospital, the post holder will also be expected to teach at Epsom and also occasionally at St George’s Hospital, so a flexible attitude towards multi-site working is essential.
There is also a possibility for occasional weekend or evening teaching in conjunction with promotional events held but notice will be given several months in advance.The successful candidate may also be required to support the FY1 teaching programme.
Training in teaching methods will be provided. The successful applicant will be invited to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Education (based on availability) and will be eligible for an Honorary Lectureship at St. George’s, University of London".
The successful applicant will spend 50% of the time in activities to further their career. An individual timetable will be developed in conjunction with the successful applicant and will be aimed at completing the necessary learning objectives for the Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Education (based on seat availability), plus also clinical experience in dedicated Clinics, Paediatric A&E and other Consultant supervised sessions.
