Job overview

This post is ideal for a doctor with MRCP Part 1 seeking to establish a career in any of the medical specialties who is either between core medical and higher training and wants a career break, or a higher specialist trainee as an Out of Programme for Experience who has an interest in Medical Education.

The post not only involves teaching opportunities but the chance to build your CV when applying for a training number or for any future post.  It offers the chance to undertake a higher degree, via the Masters in Medical Education, present at local, regional, national conferences and research innovative ideas in medical education.  The Department fully supports all Clinical Teaching Fellows in developing the course and UMED has its own annual Undergraduate Medical Education Conference, where best and innovative practice can be shared.

You will be based on the QMC & City campus and will have office space, desk and PC.  You will be working alongside other Clinical Teaching Fellows in other specialties and will be able to work together on projects and share good practice.

Main duties of the job

  • To deliver ward based general medicine teaching on the FFP Junior Medicine Course (Year 3), AP1 Integrated Medicine (Year 4) and AP2 (Senior Medicine course Year 5), across both the City and QMC Campus.
  • To provide reasonable cover where appropriate for the other Clinical Teaching Fellows (and vice-versa.)
  • Contribute to the revision and remediation courses.
  • Contribute to the clinical assessment in terms of DOPS and Min-Cex of students during the clinical course.
  • Contribute to Patient and Simulated Patient Workshops on the clinical course.
  • Contribute to Induction of FFP, AP1 and AP2 students.
  • To provide teaching on the Early Clinical Experience Course.
  • Contribute to the formal examination of these students including OSCE examinations and exam question writing. Take part in one-to-one tutoring of students re-sitting their exams and provide one-two-one teaching support for students as required.
  • Contribute in a strategic sense to the evolution of teaching for all the above groups.
  • Support teaching across the clinical course as required.
  • Working with the Undergraduate Manager and other Clinical Teaching Fellows to develop innovative teaching methods across the clinical course.
  • Undertake appropriate projects to support your own learning and improve the experience of the Department.

These tasks will involve administration and coordination, as well as hands-on delivery of teaching.
