Main duties of the job
To accurately and promptly carry out the instruction's of the Registered Nurse (RN)
To carry out duties as specified within the Trust's Approved Core Task List for Clinical Support Worker (working within assessed competence)
To welcome patients, visitors, and relatives to the clinical area, providing assistance, support and information where required. Being aware of barriers to effective communication and respond appropriately
To answer the telephone, when necessary, in a polite courteous manner and respond appropriately within the remit and pass on enquiries to the Registered Nurse
Take all reasonable steps to ensure the safe keeping of patient's property in accordance with the Trust policy
Promote a professional, welcoming and uncluttered environment, keeping all storage areas safe and clean and tidy
To ensure up to date with all mandatory (including if appropriate safeguarding and safeguarding supervision) training sessions
To have completed the Care Certificate or relevant experience in a care setting
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Job responsibilities
Clinical duties to include patient hygiene - assisting patients with personal care
Bowel and Stoma Care - to assist the RN with basic aspects of stoma care and reporting any abnormalities
Assisting the RN with catheter care, changing bags, recording output and reporting any abnormalities
Ensuring patient physical comfort - reporting any signs of physical distress to the RN
Nutrition - Assisting patients with the preparation of food and feeding where required, having an awareness of IDDSI and raising issues with the RN
Clinical measurements - to assist with routine blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring
Noting physiological and neurological observations following completion of Trust training
To provide basic tracheostomy and airway support once assessed competent under the direction of appropriate person
Following successful completion of competency assessment may perform 12-lead ECGs under the direction of the RN
To prepare patient equipment, practice infection control, document and record patient details onto Trust electronic system and answer telephone calls
Qualifications
Essential
- Education to GCSE level Grade 5 in English and Mathematics or equivalent
- Care Certificate and or equivalent Health Care experience
Desirable
- City and Guild NVQ Level 3 in Care/Health and Social Care
