Purpose of the Role

The post holder will primarily support, develop and lead the neurosciences OT service whilst providing a comprehensive Occupational Therapy service to the patients accepted by the service. Children and families referred within CHI at Temple Street will be received from the Neurosurgery, Neuro-rehabilitation, and Neurology teams.

The post holder will maintain appropriate clinical and leadership competencies to work across the neurosciences, whilst supporting junior members of staff to carry out their clinical duties. The post holder will provider supervisory roles to team members of the Neuroscience OT Team and the Spina Bifida OT team. The post holder will offer understanding of the neurosciences OT services and will support its on-going development in conjunction with the wider MDTs, service changes and CHI Integration, ahead of the move to the NCH.

The post holder will also provide clinical services to complex children and young person’s attending in-patient services including those attending as a result of a brain tumour, traumatic brain injury, and neurological disorders or those under investigation due to neurological presentations. The role encompasses supporting the neuro-rehabilitation of children during their stay in CHI @ Temple Street and supporting their safe onward discharge to home, other CHI sites, and community or specialised centres.

The therapist will work within the OT department of CHI Temple Street and will support service developments. The post-holder will contribute to departmental cross cover as directed by the OT Manager and will deputise for the site manager when required.

Essential Criteria:

  • Be registered on the Occupational Therapists board at CORU, or pending completion of registration to be able to commence post by January 2027 AND
  • Have five years full-time (or aggregate of five years) post- registration qualification; of which four years full-time (or aggregate) post registration qualification clinical experience must be in the required area of specialism (e.g. neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-rehabilitation AND including sufficient experience in an acute setting related to this area of specialism).
  • AND Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence in specialist area
  • AND Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant of the required area of specialism, in the form of post-graduate qualifications or relevant courses.
  • AND

Demonstrate achievement in the areas of clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching and research

Demonstrate evidence of having supervised junior staff members and/or students
