A position has arisen on Ward 34 for a Band 6 clinical ward sister/charge Nurse . Previous experience within haematology is essential and the successful applicant must be competent in the delivery of chemotherapy and assessor qualification.
Ward 34 is the Tertiary Centre for Coventry and Warwickshire for treatment of patients with Haematological Malignancies requiring intensive inpatient chemotherapy.
We are an Autologous Stem Cell Transplant Centre, Haemophilia Treatment Centre and Haemoglobinopathy Centre.
The ward is configured to provide inpatient, day case and clinic facilities in one place meaning that our immunocompromised patients do not share waiting or day case space with other patients. Office space for medical staff and specialist nurses is integral to the ward, and these senior staff is therefore on hand when needed. Staff on the ward work together in a dynamic and enthusiastic multidisciplinary team. The majority of our inpatients are being treated for haematological malignancies or the complications of treatment, but the nursing staff also has expertise in management of other complex patient groups, including bleeding disorder patients and patients with sickle cell anemia. We have expertise in delivery of curative and palliative treatments and often manage our patients throughout their journey, including at the end of life. All nurses are trained in, or are receiving training in, venepuncture, cannulation, management of tunneled CVCs and delivery of chemotherapy and stem cells. Ward 34 is a busy ward. We usually build excellent long term relationships with our patients.
