An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified registered Midwife to join our Reproductive Health and Children’s research team, facilitating a range of studies in maternity and Neonatology- all which contribute to improved outcomes and experience of women’s and children’s health.
You will have a key working relationship with the Team Leader, other team members and Clinicians in developing a portfolio of studies. There will be opportunities to work on a variety of studies whilst helping to promote a research active culture within Reproductive Health and children’s Specialties at ELHT.
We are looking for someone who likes a challenge and can work autonomously when appropriate whilst contributing to the wider team. You should be a good communicator and be confident interfacing with patients & staff at all levels.
This post will be based within the Women and Children’s research delivery team, supporting research studies primarily in Maternity and Neonatal Care.
You will be working as part of our small, friendly team, responsible for identifying, recruiting, and supporting parents, babies and children throughout their research journey. You will spend the majority of activity liaising with clinical teams in an outpatient or inpatient setting across our maternity and neonatal services but will also undertake some office-based work. The office time is spent ensuring accurate data is collected for our patients and learning how to establish new NIHR studies within our Trust.
Confidence using IT systems is essential, as well as compassion and excellent communication skills which are paramount.
Most of the research activity is undertaken Monday to Friday within normal working hours; however, it can vary and early starts (7:30am onwards) or late finishes (after 5pm) may be required on occasions to accommodate studies and your individual workload.
The post will be based mainly at Burnley General Teaching Hospital. However, there may be occasions where travel to other ELHT sites is necessary as per service need therefore flexibility is an essential attribute.
You will be a registered /Midwife with current NMC registration, post-registration experience and interest in reproductive health and neonatal care with a broad range of nursing and midwifery skills. You may have worked in either a Midwifery setting or Neonatal Unit/transitional care and will have experience or a keen interest in clinical research delivery.
You will be responsible for ensuring that clinical trials and research studies are undertaken following Nursing and Midwifery council guidelines and as per Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP). The post holder will be required to support all the aspects of a study protocol, with supervision and agreed competencies, assist study lead Nurses/ Midwives and members of the multidisciplinary team in delivering agreed protocols to time and targets.
You will also be required to work independently undertaking nursing/midwifery care activities and perform interventions within clinical trials specific protocols.
We support a varied mix of simple data collection studies and complex drug research studies. The successful post holder will be supported in establishing their own small portfolio of studies and cross-cover of the wider portfolio is required of all team members.
