Job overview

We are looking for a motivated Clinical Psychologist /CBT Therapist or Practitioner Psychologist to join the Department of Psychological Services within Hull University Teaching Hospitals Trust (HUTHT).

The post holder will provide support, evidence-based psychological therapies, and education to hospital staff across the work-force.

The post will be an opportunity for a Senior CBT therapist or Psychologist to apply their skills for working with common mental health problems using evidence- based models such as CBT, EMDR and IPT, at the core of services such as IAPT. In addition, this post offers flexibility and the opportunity to work with complex / wider problem presentations as needed by the hospital workforce.

It also offers the opportunity to develop interests in group work and training of other staff in wellbeing roles, according to the needs of the staff group and the interests of the post holder. As a service, we prioritise the development and retention of staff and so CPD time and resources are always strongly supported.

We also encourage applications from newly qualified practitioners at band 7 to apply for this post with a view to a preceptorship from band 7 to band 8a.

The successful candidate will work as a member of the Department of Psychological Services, based at the Queens Centre at Castle Hill Hospital. This is a supportive and growing department and includes other Staff Support Psychologists.

Main duties of the job

You will provide a highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention service including consultation and signposting to staff with complex/common mental health problems across the hospital sites of Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary.

Clinical mental health presentations seen are extremely wide-ranging but include Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Trauma, Long-term conditions, Eating Disorders and comorbid Physical Health Conditions. Some staff will present with specific work-related issues such as Burn Out Syndrome. Group interventions will include structured post incident debriefing in the workplace for which training will be provided.

You will manage your own caseload of clients and will support psychological practice within the Trust through consultation, supervision, formulation and training. You will participate in systematic clinical governance and offer clinical supervision to Assistants, Clinical Psychology Trainees, as well as other staff.  You will utilise research skills for audit, service development and research. You will need to develop a knowledge base regarding specific mental health issues in hospital environments and be able to communicate this information to different levels of the organisation.
