GMMH deliver a comprehensive pathway of trauma informed Mental Health and Learning Disability services across a multiple prison footprint, integrated within the wider health and social care provision in line with the stepped care delivery model. The service aims to provide equitable access comparable to community provision, an open referral system and to provide a strong focus on developing a wellbeing culture within the prison. At GMMH prison sites we aim to offer care via participation, creativity, and collaboration and as such, place emphasis on early identification and intervention (to reduce the likelihood of the residents requiring intensive or crisis interventions longer-term), whilst promoting self-management and an awareness of mental & physical wellbeing.
We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Clinical Nurse Specialist from a Registered Learning Disability background to sit within our Integrated Mental Health team within HMP Forest Bank and more specifically, to be a senior representative of LD nursing within an established multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental condition’s clinical pathway supporting the work across the GMMH H&J footprint.
The successful applicant will be an experienced registered learning disability nurse seeking to synthesise their existing strong clinical acumen with a senior clinical leadership role.
The post holder will contribute to the leadership and smooth, consistent application of the existing neurodevelopmental conditions pathway at HMP Forest Bank, seeking to further embed this within the wider mental health team where required whilst providing effective communications, advice and consultation as an integral and proactive member of the wider healthcare team.
The post holder have a monthly job plan which will incorporate time for work outside the wider team at Forest Bank and across the GMMH prison footprint to contribute to the professional leadership and clinical supervision of our learning disability nurse cohort via facilitation of a peer support network for LD nursing, with scope for individual case focused clinical supervision of other LD nurses. This protected time will also be to access individual professional senior LD supervision, appropriate CPD activities, and to attend monthly B7 nursing governance forums to represent the Neurodevelopmental Conditions Pathway in prisons.
The post holder will guide and support the wider health and justice services in meeting the standards for learning disability nursing as detailed within the service specifications, this will also partly include working with the BI teams in managing and streamlining data across the footprint for Learning Disability caseloads and waiting lists to ensure consistency is reached in the provision across the H&J division.
