Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 7 Hand OT to join the hand therapy team at WUTH.

You will be enthusiastic, inspiring, and innovative. You will become a key member of the long-established and successful hand therapy service at WUTH, managing a complex caseload of trauma, rheumatology, MSK, and orthopaedic patients. You will be part of a warm, friendly, and supportive hand therapy team of hand OTs and physiotherapists. You will primarily work in St Catherine`s Health Centre and Clatterbridge hospitals in the physiotherapy outpatient department, and also orthopaedic listing clinics, and fracture clinics. You will  liaise with other members of our multi-disciplinary team, including surgeons, nurses, orthotists, and administrative staff.

You will share responsibility for the running of the occupational therapy team with the other part-time Band 7 Hand OT, whilst liaising with the Clinical Specialist of the team.

You will be expected to participate in team in-service training, supervise junior staff and students, and attend regular meetings, including MDT liaison and journal clubs.

Main duties of the job

To communicate effectively with staff, patients, carers and other agencies to co-ordinate care and to ensure effective and appropriate planning and delivery of treatment.

To collect, analyse and deliver a range of more complex clinical information to staff groups, agencies, lay people etc for educational purposes, or service development.

To be a resource to support staff with complex patients requiring a high level of decision making.

To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your work including patient treatment, equipment use, resources and documentation.

To provide specialist comprehensive assessment of patients, with complex presentations, requiring a range of specialist skills, including highly developed physical skills, analytical skills and cognitive analysis skills.

To provide education and advice to own profession staff, other staff groups, agencies, patient groups, relatives and carers and the general public.

To organise and undertake audit, patient surveys or research in order to analyse effectiveness of service, identify patient need and to plan for improving and developing services.

To provide a good example of leadership, through effective team working, flexibility, enthusiasm and commitment to own speciality.
