Applicants are invited to apply for a Clinical Fellow ST4+ in Emergency Medicine and MDT Education/Simulation . The Post is for a fixed term period of 12 months.

This is an established role within the Emergency Department. It encompasses education of the whole multidisciplinary team alongside the team of two clinical nurse educators.

Funding will be provided to successful candidates to complete a postgraduate certificate in medical education at the university of Bristol http://www.bristol.ac.uk/tlhp/postgraduate-certificate/. This will be tied into successful completion of the 1 year term of the contract. Other equivalent studies will be considered as alternatives and funded to the same amount.

The Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre sees approximately 130,000 attendances per year with a separate Pediatric Emergency Department.

The department has a 6-bay resuscitation area, a 16-bay majors trolley area, an ambulatory majors area, a minor theatre, a plaster room and a 4 bedded observation area.  Recently the integrated front door project has delivered a newbuild Urgent Treatment Centre, Emergency Department and Children’s Emergency Unit with a dedicated Resus, High Care beds and 12 assessment cubicle spaces.

Main duties of the job

50% of the post will be Emergency Medicine clinical care allowing an opportunity for doctors wanting to gain experience and responsibility in not just managing patients but managing a busy department.

  • Keep an accurate and relevant medical record (electronic notes)
  • Manage time and clinical priorities effectively
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues
  • Use evidence, guidelines and audit to benefit patient care

We are a busy DGH Emergency Department and Trauma Unit that sees a wide variety of presentations (in both adult and paediatric). We deal with medical, surgical, orthopaedic, paediatric and trauma patients. These patients can present and be assessed in resus, majors, minors or paediatric ED.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

50% of the time will be spent in the department teaching and delivering simulation. The department has a strong educational ethos. There are opportunities to peruse within in-situ MDT simulation, tea-trolley teaching, social media, asynchronous learning, Virtual/Classroom teaching and shop floor teaching of the ED multidisciplinary team. There may also be opportunities to peruse simulation within the wider deanery and multiagency level with strong links to Severn Deanery and local 999 services and search and rescue.
