JOB SUMMARY
Context
A Clinical Fellow post is available based in the National Amyloidosis Centre (NAC), initially for 1 year but with the potential to extend it. It is suitable for a clinical trainee with a haematology background, who wishes to gain experience in the clinical condition or clinical research. The NAC forms part of the Centre for Amyloidosis and Acute Phase Proteins and is located at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
The Centre maintains a longstanding high profile clinical and basic science research programme and serves as the national referral centre for patients with amyloidosis and inherited periodic fever (auto-inflammatory) syndromes www.royalfree.nhs.uk/services/amyloidosis.
Main purpose of the job
Amyloidosis is a multi-system disease that encompasses many specialties.
The post holder will contribute to the delivery of the clinical services within the Centre (National Amyloidosis Centre and Cardiac MRI Department) and will contribute to the clinical research program within the Centre.
The post holder will have many opportunities to gain experience in the diagnosis and assessment of multisystem disease including clinical assessment, specialist imaging and laboratory testing and use of new therapeutics.
There is potential to and the candidate is encouraged to contribute to the centres clinical research in areas such as cardiac MRI scanning, proteomics, genetics, and clinical trials with novel agents in amyloidosis. The centre conducts a range of clinical trials in ATTR, AL and hereditary amyloidosis.
There would be potential for a enrolling for a PhD. If the successful candidate is a SpR with a National Training Number (NTN) s/he should apply prospectively to the JRCPTB to discuss any educational or clinical credit which may be achieved from the post.
