Job overview

An opportunity for a full time post in Paediatric Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging has arisen at Royal Brompton Hospital. This post is available for those who have been trained in Paediatric Cardiology for at least 3 years.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity for training and experience in all aspects of Paediatric Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The postholder will attend 3-months CMR course followed by participation in the paediatric CMR service. This includes attendance of paediatric CMR scans and guidance of the radiographers, cannulating paediatric patients and writing preliminary reports. Feedback and teaching from the consultants will be provided. The postholder will get exposure to hundreds of wide range of congenital and non-congenital CMR scans. The post will include some duties in paediatric cardiology.

Applicants must be registered with the GMC.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Fellow in Paediatric CMR is primarily based in the CMR unit at the Royal Brompton Hospital. For the first three months of the 12-month contract, the Fellow will undertake a course in CMR. Once complete, they will gradually begin to undertake the reporting of paediatric congenital and non-congenital CMR scans under the supervision of the paediatric CMR consultant and support the organisation of general anaesthetic scans.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Completion of a 3-month course in CMR, including daily lectures
  • Attendance at daily interactive reporting sessions
  • Reporting paediatric congenital and non-congenital scans under the supervision of the paediatric CMR consultant, once sufficiently trained
  • Supporting the organisation of CMR scans to be performed under general anaesthetic, once sufficiently trained
  • Contributing to audit and research projects in CMR
