Job overview

Applications are invited from outstanding surgical candidates with FRCS(Orth) or equivalent for the post of Clinical Fellow. This post is suitable for surgeons who have completed their specialist registrar training (post CCT is desirable) and are seeking experience in spinal surgery prior to obtaining a consultant appointment.

The Fellowship will rotate between 2 pairs of clinical teams to be discussed at interview regarding training preference. The full range of spinal surgical experience is available with surgical subspecialties including early onset scoliosis, adult deformity, all acute spinal presentations, degenerative spinal pathologies including MIS, spinal sarcoma and metastatic disease. Training and service delivery will occur across the three main OUH hospital sites.

We expect successful  candidates to have their own surgical loupes (recommended 3x magnification with extended field) when they start in post. Training with the microscope will also be available.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The purpose of this post is to enable the successful candidate to gain fellow level experience in spinal surgery, whilst providing senior support to the professional team in carrying out its Clinical workload in terms of outpatient clinics, operating lists and ward work.

Over a period of one year we would expect the candidate to gain experience in routine and complex surgery, including trauma and elective practice.

The candidate will also be expected to rapidly engage in management and audit responsibility of the team.
