Job overview

This post is based in the Infectious diseases ward at St Mary’s Hospital. This is a 100% clinical Fellowship post. The post is for 6 months from February 2025, and a further 6 months from August 2025, or if preferred one candidate could hold the post for 1 year.

The fellowship is suitable for doctors with SHO experience, who are looking to pursue a career in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology or Virology.

Main duties of the job

The fellow will work 5 days per week in the infectious diseases ward, and can be flexible around which day is not worked clinically. There are potential opportunities to get involved in clinical trials research work on the non-clinical day.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work in collaboration with an IMT1 (GIM) doctor to provide ward cover on the Infectious Diseases ward. This will include providing excellent care for inpatients and ambulatory care reviews, including ward rounds, ward work (reviewing patients, ordering and reviewing investigations), clinics and MDTs. The post holder would be expected to actively participate in departmental activities, including teaching, audit, quality improvement activities and presentation at internal clinical seminars. There is a specialist registrar and IMT3 (GIM) doctor working in the team as well as a consultant for the month. This post will provide a general training in Infectious Diseases.

The post holder will have the opportunity to develop relevant generic skills including leadership, teaching, and communication and managing workload effectively. They will ensure excellent care of patients and ensure collaborative working within the MDT.
