Job overview

This is a fixed term 6 month position with the potential to extend to a year for a candidate interesting in pursuing a career in anaesthetics. The post will commence at the start of August in line with national rotations.

Our department has a reputation for encouraging individual interests and we are delighted to be able to offer the applicant a choice of sub-specialty interest.  The department provides the full range of DGH anaesthesia including Orthopaedic, General Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Gynaecology, ENT and Oral Surgery lists. The successful candidate would be encouraged and supported to participate in education, audit or quality improvement projects.

We pride ourselves on being a supportive and friendly department that works collaboratively with other specialties and we are honoured to have  recently been awarded Anaesthetic Clinical Service Accreditation (ACSA) by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

ST3 level or equivalent (completed RCOA Stage 1 training or equivalent)

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate would join the registrar 1:8 emergency on call rota. This on-call tier has primary responsibility to cover the emergency theatre, but also supports more junior CT2-3 colleagues covering obstetrics out-of-hours.  It is therefore essential that any applicant has the ability to provide anaesthetic cover to labour ward. There is 24/7 consultant cover for theatres, labour ward and ICU.

Objectives of the fellowship would depend on the sub-speciality interest agreed. Please see the attachment below for more detail about the sub-specialties on offer.
