Job overview

Applicants are invited for the positions of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST3-5) in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. This post is to commence from 01 April 2026 for a period of 12 months. Orthopaedic surgery in Cambridge has seen a dramatic change in the last few years, with the development of Cambridge as the Level 1 Trauma Centre for East Anglia as well as a substantial increase in Consultant numbers. Multiple middle grade posts were created to accommodate the increased workload. A full range of Elective and Orthopaedic Trauma sub-specialties are covered in Cambridge, including Pelvic and Acetabular Trauma, Frame Surgery, Arthroplasty, and Paediatric Orthopaedics.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be on a parallel rota to the current Registrars and will be encouraged to attend the regional training programme, as clinical duties permit.  Regular in-house teaching also occurs, including daily Consultant led trauma meetings, as well as a weekly trauma 'grand round', where the Trauma Surgeons meet for the morning, to discuss the complex cases of the week and those referred in. In order to be considered for this post, MRCS and current ATLS certification are essential, as is a minimum of 12 months experience in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. Please note that these posts do not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval or training recognition. You must hold full GMC registration with a current license to practice at time of application.
