The post holder will act as clinical education lead Sonographer for General Ultrasound and will be responsible for managing and upholding a safe and effective general ultrasound imaging service in the hospitals of St Bartholomew’s, Mile End and the Royal London Hospital. They will undertake both clinical (50%) and managerial (50%) duties.
They will lead on compliance with key performance indicators for the general ultrasound imaging service and will provide supervision and specialist advice and expertise to the ultrasound team of Sonographers, students and Imaging Assistants, in addition to the wider multi-disciplinary team. They will work closely with the operational and governance leads to ensure operational and clinical governance aspects are delivered and monitored. This includes leading regular peer review audits and action plans are in place for learning needs, including inductions and clinical competencies of new staff. Clinical education should match the needs of the service and therefore gaps that affect 2ww waits, DM01, and in-patient services should be identified to allow individual and service development. The postholder will actively develop the service using national and local NHS guidelines, ensuring that staff promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals. The postholder will work closely with the Trust education and training lead sonographer to ensure equity across all sites.
They will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, liaising with those involved to ensure the appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. They will undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice adhering to national and local ultrasound guidelines and maintain a high professional and technical standard ensuring that all staff working in their area maintain similar standards.
The post holder will assist in maintaining Cross Trust integration of the ultrasound scanning service and be responsible for developing and regularly reviewing standardised departmental protocols .The staff member will develop training plans, create core trainers, and ensure comprehensive documentation of competency, assisting in audit, quality improvement and research, whilst acting as an independent practitioner to authorise ultrasound scans.
They will attend and represent the Ultrasound Imaging service at the group imaging meetings across Northeast London (NEL) contributing to the strategic development of the services across the Imaging Network.
