Are you an experienced Clinical Coder with a passion for education and development? University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Clinical Coder Trainer to join our dynamic and supportive Clinical Coding Team.

In this pivotal role, you will lead the training and development of trainee coders across our three main hospital sites. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality training, mentoring, and assessment to ensure coders achieve national accreditation and maintain high standards of clinical coding accuracy and compliance.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver structured training programmes aligned with NHS Digital and IHRIM standards.
  • Support trainees through the Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) qualification process.
  • Conduct regular assessments, audits, and feedback sessions.
  • Develop and maintain training materials and resources.
  • Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical teams to promote coding awareness and data quality.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Clinical Coding department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Coding Trainer Support the Clinical Coding Improvement Manager in delivering high-quality training for clinical coding staff across the Trust. Responsibilities include developing and managing training programmes—covering trainee development, refresher courses, specialty workshops, and individual training needs—to ensure staff achieve and maintain accreditation.

Key duties:

  • Identify training needs and support competency development.
  • Assist in creating and reviewing training procedures.
  • Highlight audit needs related to staff training.
  • Deliver training in line with national frameworks and compliance standards.
  • Improve coded data quality through awareness sessions.
  • Update guidance materials to reflect NHS England standards.
  • Provide coding cover to maintain knowledge and meet deadlines.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Clinical Coding Improvement Manager.
